Women in Medicine Month

Antonia Novello, MD was the first woman and first Hispanic to become Surgeon General of the United States. During her tenure as Surgeon General, she spoke out on underage drinking, smoking, and AIDS. For work during the Gulf War, General Colin Powell awarded her the Legion of Merit. For Women in Medicine Month, we celebrate Dr. Novello’s commitments to public service and health education.

St. Mary's Medical Center celebrates all the women in medicine across the world who are committed to caring for our communities. Thank you to all the women in medicine for your dedication to care, sacrifices, and courage. You are inspiring to us all.
