How to Apply
The St. Mary’s Medical Center General Surgery Residency Program appoints
categorical residents through the NRMP (National Residency Matching Program).
Our program only accepts applications through ERAS (Electronic Residency
Application Service) and is listed as Kansas City University of Medicine
& Biosciences-GME Consortium (KCU-GME Consortium)/St. Mary’s Program.
Accepting Applications: 2020-2021
Application Deadline: October 15

The application package consists of the following:
- ERAS application
- Personal statement
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean’s Letter)
- USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores/COMLEX Level 1 and Level scores
- Official medical school transcript
- Minimum of three letters of recommendation
Invitations for interviews are extended to selected candidates on the basis
of residency program-related criteria. Candidates are chosen on the basis
of their medical training, general achievements, and personal qualities
such as their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication
skills and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Programs
will not discriminate with regard to race, gender, color, creed, religion,
national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation
(including gender identity) or status as a protected veteran. During the
interview, applicants will meet the director of medical education, program
director, members of the selection committee, program faculty, and residents
in order to assess the personal qualities that are required of a successful
resident. Applicants will receive a tour of our facilities and will have
plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Our program does not offer VISA sponsorship at this time.
